Who is the best doctor to see for knee pain?

Start with an orthopaedic surgeon, the doctor who treats bones and joints. In Noida, you can consult Dr. Sushil Sharma at Kailash Hospital & Heart Institute, Sector 27, who will examine your knee, review your X-rays and explain both non-surgical options and surgery. • Training and registration: qualifications, fellowships and medical registration number.
  • Outcomes: how they handle complications, and their infection and revision rates if they track them.
  • Reviews: read many, and look for patterns about communication and follow-up rather than star ratings alone.
  • Cost: a written, itemised estimate that says what is and is not included.

Sports Injuries and Arthroscopy

What is arthroscopy?

Arthroscopy, or keyhole surgery, uses a small camera and fine instruments passed through tiny cuts to see inside a joint and treat problems such as meniscus tears, loose fragments and ligament injuries. It is commonly used for the knee and shoulder, and recovery is usually quicker than after open surgery. More on sports injury care.

Which sports injuries need surgery?

Many sports injuries heal with rest, physiotherapy and a gradual return to activity. Surgery is considered for problems such as complete ligament tears in active people (for example the ACL), meniscus tears that cause locking, and unstable or repeatedly dislocating shoulders. An examination, and often an MRI, decides the plan.

How long is recovery after ACL surgery?

Most patients need around six to nine months of structured rehabilitation before returning to sports that involve pivoting or sudden changes of direction, though this varies. Return to sport is guided by strength and stability, not just the calendar.

Other Orthopaedic Questions

Is hip replacement possible at a young age?

Yes. Hip replacement is done in younger patients when the joint has been badly damaged by conditions such as avascular necrosis, arthritis or injury, and the implants and technique are chosen with long-term use in mind. Read the full answer: hip replacement at a young age: is it possible?

How can I protect my bones from osteoporosis?

Get enough calcium and vitamin D, do regular weight-bearing exercise, avoid smoking and heavy alcohol, and ask about a bone density (DEXA) scan if you are at higher risk, for example after menopause or in older age. Treatment is available when osteoporosis is found. Dr. Sharma writes about this in his book “Defeat Osteoporosis”.
